Shenandoah is and American folk song.  While it’s origin is unknown, it is thought to date to the 19th century.  The song seems to have originated with Canadian and American fur traders traveling down the Missouri river.  It speaks of chief Shenandoah and a canoer who wanted to marry his daughter.  By the mid 19th century, it became a sea shanty.
